Cookie policy

Last updated: 9 October 2026

Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to keep. This page lists every one capitalmortgageadvice.co.uk is responsible for. The list is short.

Before you choose, we set nothing

Until you make a choice on the cookie banner, this site sets no cookies at all. Google's tag, which runs our analytics and Google Ads measurement, is loaded in a consent-denied, cookieless mode, so it cannot store anything or identify you. Nothing is dropped “pending” your decision, and if you reject, it stays that way.

Remembering your choice

When you accept or reject, we save that one decision in your browser's local storage under cookie-consent-choice-v2 (an older cookie-consent-choice from our previous banner is removed when you answer). Strictly speaking it is not a cookie — it is never sent to our server — but it is storage on your device, so it belongs on this page. It exists only so we stop asking you on every page, it holds nothing but the word “accepted” or “rejected”, and clearing your browser data removes it.

If you accept

The banner asks for two things together: analytics, and Google Ads measurement. Accepting allows both; rejecting allows neither. These cookies are set only if you accept.

Analytics

Google Analytics sets these, and only these:

CookieWhat it doesExpires
_gaTells returning visits apart from new ones, without knowing who you are2 years
_ga_*Keeps one browsing session together2 years

We use this to see which guides get read and which pages people leave, so we can write better ones. We never see your name or email in analytics, and we do not combine it with anything you have sent us.

Google Ads measurement

This lets us see which of our Google adverts lead to enquiries, so we can tell which adverts work. It only holds anything if you arrived by clicking one of our adverts: Google adds a click reference to the link, and Google's tag keeps it in these cookies on this site:

CookieWhat it doesExpires
_gcl_au, _gcl_aw, _gcl_gbLinks an ad click to a later enquiry so we can measure which ads work90 days

Google learns which advert you clicked and whether an enquiry followed. We never send it your name, email address or phone number. We do not use these cookies for remarketing, and we tell Google not to use them to personalise the adverts you see.

Security

Our infrastructure provider, Cloudflare, may set a short-lived cookie such as __cf_bm to tell real visitors from bots. It carries no advertising or profiling function and is exempt from consent because the site would be open to abuse without it.

What we never use

No remarketing or retargeting, and no ad personalisation. No social media trackers. No other advertising network. No cross-site profiling, and no sale or sharing of anything a cookie collects beyond the Google Ads measurement above. If that ever changes, it changes here first and we would ask you again.

The affordability tool

Our affordability page embeds a calculator from Mortgage Affordability, which sets its own cookies under its own cookie policy.

Changing your mind

Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. This button revokes analytics and Google Ads measurement immediately:

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or read more at aboutcookies.org. Nothing on this site breaks if you refuse.
